CHANGE2TWIN: Over 1.4M€ to implement Digital Twin Technologies in the Manufacturing Sector

Change2Twin is a EU project looking for end-user SMEs and mid-caps from the manufacturing sector willing to develop and implement digital twin technology.
The project is currently running the 2nd Open Call that will close next 16th April 2023, at 5m CET

About the Change2Twin Project

CHANGE2TWIN is a European project funded by the European Commission that seeks to finance projects of SMEs and mid-caps from the manufacturing sector in the EU or partner countries to develop and deploy digital twin technology.

What is a Digital Twin? A digital twin is a digital replica of an artefact, process or service that is so accurate that it can be the basis for decisions. The digital replica and physical world are often connected by streams of data. Change2Twin will address digital twins of artefacts, processes and services associated with manufacturing.

The Change2Twin Consortium is led by SINTEF AS and is composed of 18 partners from 9 European countries (Norway, Austria, Poland, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany and Spain) and follows a cascade funding scheme (take a look at our last publication about How Cascade Funding Works and discover all the benefits for your organisation), through which it will carry out 2×2 open calls to recruit SMEs or mid-caps from the EU or associated countries for which a total of €2.380.000 will be distributed in the form of grants. The first open call was closed with a total budget of €1.197.598.

CHANGE2TWIN 2nd Open Call Details

In the second open call for Deployment vouchers, a total of 1.182.402€ will be distributed to a maximum of 16 applicants who will participate in the 11-month support programme with the objective of developing and implementing a digital twin to improve their competitiveness. Beneficiaries will receive:

    • Up to 90.000€ as a lump sum to cover the costs to deploy and implement technology and systems applicable to digital twins for manufacturing.
    • Technical mentorship to support the digital twin deployment in each phase of its implementation from user requirements to design specification.

The Deployment Voucher support programme is divided into two stages:

    • Stage 1 – Inception. For 2 months the technical partners will help you define the user requirements of your digital twin. Additionally, the framework of the experiment will be communicated and agreed with you.
    • Stage 2 – Experiment. For 9 months you will receive the necessary support to focus on the implementation of the digital twin technology.

The Implementation Voucher is also open to companies that did not receive or did not apply for the Evaluation Voucher support in any of the previous calls.

WHO CAN APPLY

The Deployment Voucher is oriented to individual (single) legal entities meeting the following requirements: Manufacturing SMEs and mid-caps from the EU, Horizon 2020 associated countries or the UK. The list of the countries associated with Horizon Europe is available here.

The minimum level of digitisation for companies applying for the open call is 2, but the ideal profile is companies that already reached a digitisation level 3 (based on the Acatech Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index to assess the digitalization level of companies), which means that they preferably already use dashboards and data from important business processes, such as production, are made available by the use of sensors.

Change2Twin: Industry4.0 Stages

Notice that beneficiaries of both Assessment Voucher Open Calls are eligible to apply to the 2nd Deployment Voucher Open Call. Beneficiaries of the 1st Deployment Voucher Open Call are excluded from applying in this 2nd Open Call.
